My Covid Recovery, Experience & Vaccine Information

Wow. What a year 2020 has been. So incredible in many ways, many of them not good.

As you know, in early November, my husband Frank and I had Covid infections. Thankfully, none of our children got it. But Frank became considerably more ill than I did.

Even though I’ve already had Covid, I got the vaccine. We will talk about all of these things today. My daughter Allie is here in this episode to talk about Covid from her perspective.

So here is our family journey with Covid-19.

My experience with COVID

I found that it's easier to be sick than to watch someone you love struggle.

It was truly terrifying to see my husband become so ill. I had no idea how serious it might be, or whether it would be better or worse the next day. It left me thinking, "What if? What if I lose him?".

Frank is a former emergency room doc and can power through just about anything. So when he felt awful enough that he agreed to go to the hospital, I was really scared.

To leave him at the hospital, even though I knew he was in good hands, left me feeling frantic.

Now I know how my patients and their families feel. So for any of you who have had Covid or had somebody that you love affected, I have a new appreciation for what you have gone through. I thought I “got it” before. But now I really get it on a different level.

Frank and I are home now and healthy. We are looking forward to 2021. We had a quiet holiday this year and appreciated each other and our family so much!

My experience with the COVID vaccine

As we're all aware, the Covid vaccine is being rolled out. The first doses are being given to frontline healthcare workers.

When our hospital offered the vaccine, I wondered if I should get it. The CDC is recommending that even if we have had the infection, we should receive the vaccine. In the video, I share what the vaccine felt like.

I can't wait for it to be available for everyone.

In general, the Covid vaccine is considered safe and effective and I would encourage you, especially if you're pregnant or planning to be pregnant, to go ahead and be vaccinated and protect yourself and your baby. Remember, this is not a live vaccine, so you can't get Covid from the vaccine.

What's ahead?

Great things are coming up in 2021. I've been thinking about what's really important to me, personally and professionally. It all comes down to my family and you, my dear! I'm so thankful for you and want to serve you the best I can.

We'll talk more about the new year in upcoming episodes. My diabetes course is about ready to launch, and I have lots more ideas about how to help you have the healthy pregnancy you want.

So from our family to yours: we're really glad to be wrapping up 2020 and still be standing. We love each other and we love you. And together we've got this!
